It would look bad for his own business to receive government help anyway. If he's so rich, why doesn't he either keep his workers employed or at least pay them half wages while laid off? It would be great PR for him.

just reported today that 560 were laid off at trump's doral resort / golf club here in the miami area.
up the road from me, one of trump's major resorts (the one he plays golf at a lot) is laying off most of the staff.. i am surprised since there is that federal support for businesses that if you don't lay off your employees, you get government support.

The Golden Age, predecessor of Awake!, used to rail against vaccinations. You can still find plenty of their ridiculous cartoons on the internet. Medical conspiracy theories and outright ignorance reigned supreme in those rags.
Unofficially, some JWs passed around methods of scarring their children's arms so as to
lie tofool the authorities about whether they had been vaccinated or not so they could attend school. Blatantly dishonest and deceptive, but many did it anyway. -

waton, you are mistaken about those companies making stuff for the Nazis during World War 2. The computers and other devices were ordered, paid for and shipped, with US government approval, long before the war began.
For example, construction on the Bismarck began in July, 1936. It was launched in February, 1939. IBM's German subsidiary did supply the German government with computers and a punch card system to facilitate their 1933 census, but this information was only years later used to enable the Holocaust. The US branch did not work with the Germans during the war.
This is analogous to the weapons and other equipment sent to our former "friends" and now being used against us. I wish there were some sort of self-destruct mechanism we could imbed in stuff like that, especially fighter jets and missiles. Now there's an idea!

Coronavirus Positive

i'm day six of isolation, confirmed to have coronavirus.
i have been seeing very sick cv positive patients over the last month in my a&e role (emergency physician) it was inevitable i would contract it.. just wanted to give some symptom and treatment advice, it's anecdotal but may help.. started as sore throat and headache, then croaky voice, then dry cough, then episodic transient fevers, all this over the first few days.

Legal Concerns About "Zoom" Meetings!

if a person has to dress up for a zoom meeting the way the watchtower dictates, doesn't this really go "beyond" cult?.
even the cults who committed mass suicide were able to dress the way they wanted for their meetings.

I’m with you! Nothing screams CULT louder than requiring adherents to place cameras in their homes so the leaders can see what they’re wearing and make sure they’re paying attention.
Just allowing unknown people a view into your home through access to a video feed seems extremely risky. Who, exactly, is watching you and noticing that you seem vulnerable and have stuff that might be worth taking? Especially since few JWs are equipped to defend themselves or their homes.
I think the main reason the Society is so intent on continuing the meetings by whichever means is so they can keep up the
encouragementpressure to send those contributions in. “Why, we even have the loving provision from Jehovah of setting up regular donations right from your bank account or credit card.” -

There is plenty to criticize and ridicule the Society about, and I like to be among the first to do so, but I see nothing nefarious here. From a business standpoint, buying these homes to house temporary workers and then selling them off makes sense.
You might think they'd make them available first to needy "faithful long-time servants," but we all know the chance of that happening.
The fact that no one is being forked over by this particular deal takes nothing away from the fact that the Society is a greedy money-grubbing mind-control cult from which there is no honorable exit. Once in, you cannot leave without losing all your family and friends that stay in. I hate this blanking religion and what it does to otherwise good people!

you can tell the details aren’t exactly correct, but the intent to show familial shunning and it’s affects are loud and clear.

I, too, thought it interesting that being shunned by JW family was used as a subplot involving a main character in this series. It must be a commonly known practice or its depiction wouldn't make sense to the viewers, because the series doesn't go into much detail.
We can surmise the character is either DF or DA because a JW elder tries to convince him to "come back." The reason he is being shunned isn't clearly explained, but it seems likely that he simply stopped believing in the Truth™ and left because he refused to fake it. A totally incongruous and unnecessary scene might hint at something else, but every production nowadays has to include something like that to be "inclusive."
The character's sister, evidently an active JW, surreptitiously tries to inform him of their father's impending death but is opposed and shut down by her overbearing husband and other elders. His work associates cannot understand why he doesn't want to go to his own father's funeral. Only a shunned ex-JW will really get it.
I thought the shunning was totally realistic. The JWs went "beyond what is written," (more than is actually required), but this frequently happens in real life. The way it can affect those subjected to it is also realistic.
The Kingdom Hall he forced himself to go to for the funeral was far nicer and more elaborate than any I've ever seen. Definitely not the new "dentist office" model. The funeral service he walked in on bears no resemblance to an actual JW funeral talk, but that's beside the point. It was also unrealistic that elders confronted him and tried to physically remove him even though he wasn't causing a disturbance. The point is he was being shunned and rejected, even by his own family, because he is no longer a member of the group.
Maybe the awful way he was treated will make people wonder why and expose this cruel practice to even more scrutiny. We can always hope...
